Activity Spotlight – Spring Festivals!

In the Activity Spotlight we highlight some of the many great activities available within a short drive of Ravenwood Castle. This week’s Spotlight is written by Innkeeper Amy Miller.

Although the weather may not show it, Spring has sprung! The Hocking Hills region is home to many interesting events throughout the year, and springtime is no exception. The warmer weather tends to bring folks together, often in the form of festivals. Two such festivals are coming up in the next few weeks!

Moonshine Festival, May 24 – 28, 2018

The Moonshine Festival in New Straitsville is an annual treat that always brings together a diverse crowd. This local gem of a festival started in May of 1971 as a way to celebrate New Straitsville’s history as the moonshine capital of the world.

The five day festival features moonshine vendors (don’t worry, they receive a temporary license to brew the famous spirit!), old fashioned distilleries, and carnival style family food. History buffs should be sure to stop into the museum to learn how this little town once churned out more moonshine than anywhere else in the country!

Entertainment at the festival includes a parade, amusement rides, and music by Turn it Up and Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. For event details call 740-394-2239 or visit the New Straitsville Facebook page.

Nelsonville Music Festival, May 31 – June 3, 2018

The Nelsonville Music Festival in Nelsonville, Ohio features live music from over 60 acts covering a variety of genres and multiple stages. Presented by Stuart’s Opera House, a non-profit theater and performing arts center, the festival is now in its 14th year!

In addition to four days of great music, the festival also offers a huge selection of vendors, featuring a variety of local food, family fun, artisans of all kinds, and even a beer garden! For those with little ones, the festival includes a dedicated kids area with activities throughout the weekend.

Tickets to the festival range from $75 to $150 for a weekend pass, children under 12 are free. VIP passes are also available, which grant access to exclusive stage viewing areas, priority food and beverage service and VIP only facilities. Visit the festival’s website to buy your tickets now before they sell out!
