Activity Spotlight – Equestrian Ridge Farm

Today’s post launches another new series for Quoth the Raven, the Activity Spotlight. In this series we will highlight some of the many great activities available within a short drive from Ravenwood Castle.

Everyone knows about the great hiking in the Hocking Hills, but did you know that you can enjoy our wonderful scenery from horseback as well? Our first Activity Spotlight features trail riding, and one of our favorite places in the Hocking Hills: Equestrian Ridge Farm. Located on 200 acres just 2 miles from Ravenwood Castle, Equestrian Ridge has been offering custom riding adventures for well over a decade.

If you’ve been on a trail ride in the past, there is a good chance that it was a ‘follow the leader’ style ride. You know the ones I mean. Your horse’s nose seems to be attached to the tail of the horse in front of you, and you plod along a predetermined path with nothing to look at but the hindquarters of the lead horse. Not so at Equestrian Ridge.

Instructor and Trainer Jackie Stewart offers only private riding tours, so you will be enjoying your ride with your own family and friends. This also allows the ride to be tailored to your group’s level of ability and experience. Novices or families with younger children may enjoy a leisurely ride through the meadows. More experienced riders may venture into the woods and tackle some light hills. Those with a greater thirst for adventure can explore the deep woods and steeper hills in search of caves and waterfalls. Each of the unique tours offered can be tailored to fit the needs of the riders.

If you would like to book a trail ride on your next visit to the Hocking Hills (and why wouldn’t you?!), contact Jackie at Equestrian Ridge Farms at (740) 603-2523. Ask for the Ravenwood Castle Special Tour to experience a route available only to our guests. We recommend making reservations at least 36 hours in advance during the busy season. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and closed toe footwear.
