Room Spotlight – Empress Matilda Suite

We love a good story about strong women in history and we’ve named several of our Castle suites after some of the strongest women on record. Empress Matilda may be lesser known than Queen Elizabeth, but she is no less impressive in her accomplishments and influence.

Empress Matilda was the rightful heir of Henry I, and granddaughter of William the Conquerer, who fought many ferocious battles to secure her lineage and inheritance. She matched all, and exceeded many, of the men around her in diplomacy, fiscal knowledge, tenacity, and determination. While she never fully realized her right her rule, she did pave the way for the idea of a woman ruler to be accepted when Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth found themselves at that crossroads over 400 years later.

The suite that bears her name at Ravenwood Castle is fit for an empress of exacting tastes. Rich greens and blues create a calming environment, featuring a large, comfortable bed for power naps and restful nights to conquer the day ahead.

Survey the kingdom from your second story balcony with views of the front lawn and woods or relax by the stately fireplace in the sizeable seating area, perfect for meeting with your advisors in strategy sessions for your next conquest or relaxing after a long day of ruling with a nice hot cup of tea perusing latest royal decrees.
