Activity Spotlight – Haunted Hocking Hills

Do you love local lore and legend? Do you adore that prickly feeling up your spine when you hear a scary story? Try out some of the local haunted houses this season and head to the top haunts in the Hocking Hills this Halloween!

Check out the Wicked Forest in Logan, OH, a walk-through haunted trail with live actors. Experience the thrill of being scared in a safe environment with the sounds of nature all around. It was just an owl… or was it?

Want something more authentic? Explore the local lore of Moonville Tunnel & the Moonville Rail Trail (McArthur, OH). It has been reported you can hear the voices from a long-gone mining town amidst the valley and trails between Moonville Tunnel and Kings Station Tunnel. The Moonville Tunnel itself has its own ghosts as well, with reports of an engineer and brakeman who haunt the tunnel.

Try your hand at ghost-hunting in Lake Hope State Park! The site of the old stone Hope Furnace is rumored to be eternally guarded by the ghost of a night watchman who fell into the furnace during his watch. People have claimed to see a figure carrying a lantern walking around the top of the furnace.

For a lighter, family-friendly activity, stop by Libby’s Pumpkin Patch in Albany, OH for some home-grown pumpkins for carving and decorating. Call ahead to see if the corn maze is open.

Whatever your preference, be sure to check out some of the spookier side of Hocking Hills on your next visit. Get more information on haunted spots to check out at
