Activity Spotlight – Hocking Hills Winery

There is something for everyone in the Hocking Hills region, whether it be an adventurous rock-climbing excursion, a quiet hike around Old Man’s Cave, or a relaxing night at a local spot enjoying delicious food, drinks, and quality time with friends and family. Today we turn our attention toward one of those local spots that has been family-owned and operated since 2013: The Hocking Hills Winery.

The Hocking Hills Winery opened its doors in April 2015. The land itself was originally a cattle farm, dating back to the 1960s where it was started by Max and Loris Davidson. By 2008, both had passed away and the farm was left for future generations to tend. The Davidsons took care of the land in the meantime, but it was unclear as to what it would be used for. It just so happened that one of the grandsons by the name of Blaine Davidson was pursuing his MBA at Ashland University and was part of an entrepreneurship course. As a final project, he created a business plan that was centralized on the idea of turning this family farm into a vineyard. The Davidson family proceeded to plant the first 600 grapevines in 2008. From there, it took a few years of extremely hard work, passion, and family effort for the Hocking Hills Winery to come to fruition.

When visiting Hocking Hills, the winery is a must. On Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm they have live music and on Thursdays they offer discounted wine slushies – nothing more refreshing after a hike around the trails! If you come with a grumbling belly, don’t worry, the winery has a list of local places that deliver right to you. The winery itself offers meat and cheese trays, hummus and veggie trays, or a variety if you can’t decide!  If you’re feeling something a bit heartier, they permit outside food and even allow for usage of their propane grills!

Hocking Hills Winery offers a large selection of both white and red wines with a mixture of types from their estate vineyards and grapes from around the world. Check out their website to read about the wines they carry and what they pair well with.

Located at 30402 Freeman Road in Logan, the winery is less than a 30-minute drive from the Castle and is sure to make you feel right at home. Book your stay with us today and take a trip out to Hocking Hills Winery for a night to remember!
