A Case of Bad Magic – March 6th & 7th
It’s hard to believe, but 2019 is nearly behind us! As the year comes to a close, so too does our lineup of announcements for the 2019-2020 murder mystery season. In fact, there are only two mysteries left to announce for this season – including this one! While this season has showcased quite a few classic themes, we promised that we wouldn’t forget about the new favorites. This next mystery features one of our current most popular themes – witchcraft and wizardry!
The Ravenwood School of Myth and Magic is a wonderful place. It attracts witches and wizards from the world over – students, professors, and traveling scholars alike. So it was not at all out of the ordinary when a visiting alchemist appeared at the front gates, toting a case full of magical potions and artifacts. The peddler of magical curios had travelled from afar to trade his wares and test some of his newer concoctions.
After classes let out for the day the students descended upon the merchant and his goods. Many left the impromptu market with a new treasure: a shiny new wand, a magical necklace, and many a potion promising a variety of wondrous results. As dusk fell the students returned to their dorms, the peddler was offered a guest room, and the School settled in for the night.
The next morning dawned on a chaotic scene. The student who had purchased the magical necklace found that she could not remove it, and that it was slowly but steadily growing smaller. The shiny new wand had exploded during a simple spell, seriously injuring its purchaser. Several of the potions had made their imbibers frightfully ill throughout the night. Two more students, both of whom had purchased potions, were nowhere to be found – although a new statue had appeared in the courtyard which looked suspiciously like one of them. Worst of all, a fourth year student had been found dead in his room. The cause of death is unknown, and nobody can remember if he had purchased anything from the peddler.
As for the peddler himself, when the faculty arrived to question him they found the guest room empty. Stranger still, it seems that nobody could quite remember the traveler’s name, where he’d said he was from, or even precisely what he looked like.
Just what was in that traveling peddler’s trunk? Can the lingering ill effects be reversed in time to save the endangered students? Perhaps most importantly, is this a case of intentional sabotage and murder, or just a Case of Bad Magic?
The Ravenwood Detective Agency is calling all agents, witches and wizards, novice and veteran alike to investigate. Join us March 6th & 7th for A Case of Bad Magic as our agents once again return to the world of wizardry!
