Beer: Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout

Stouts are one of my favorite style of beer, which is probably why the Raven’s Roost Pub carries so many of them. I enjoy them all, but my personal favorite is without a doubt this month’s beer of the month – Maumee Bay’s Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout.

Total Eclipse is an Imperial Stout which, true to its name, is absolutely pitch black. It is a hearty beer, some might even say a meal in itself, with a higher than average alcohol content at 9.1%.  It is extremely drinkable despite the high alcohol content, with a chocolate sweetness and a strong – but not overpowering – coffee aroma and flavor.

Maumee Bay describes the Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout as:

“Breakfast in a glass. Brewed with copious amount of oats and lactose for a smooth mouthfeel. Infused with espresso.”

Breakfast in a glass. I haven’t actually tried it that way yet, but I have to admit it’s tempting!

Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout first came into the Raven’s Roost this summer, as one of the Ohio brews we featured for the Ohio Brew Week.  It immediately secured a permanent place on the Raven’s Roost menu, and also earned the Maumee Bay Brewing Company a feature spot in our up coming first ever Brew Tasting Weekend.

If this is their breakfast offering, I can hardly wait to see what they bring to the table for dinner!
