April Game of the Month – Snake Oil

The Game of the Month series highlights one of the many games in our libraries at Ravenwood Castle and The Malted Meeple. We will briefly describe the game, how to play it, and why we like it. This month’s Game of the Month is written by The Malted Meeple’s Head Game Master – and former Ravenwood Innkeeper – Karington Hess.

Game: Snake Oil

Could you sell a Grenade Mask to a Cowboy?

What about Laser Glasses to a Pirate?

Perhaps you would have better luck trying to sell a Costume Book to a Rock Star!

In the hit party game Snake Oil, players pick two of the six cards in their hand to create a zany product. Then, they explain what the customer could do with that product. After everyone has pitched their product, the customer chooses which product they think is best. The game is over once every player has had a chance to be the customer. Whoever successfully pitches the most products wins the game!

One of the things I love most about Snake Oil is how approachable it is. It is fun for children and adults alike, as well as veteran gamers and non-gamers.  The rules are easy to pick up and the game supports a large number of players. The game inspires players to be creative when creating their products and when pitching them.

Snake Oil is always a crowd-pleaser at the Malted Meeple and Ravenwood Castle. Wherever the box of Snake Oil goes, laughter is always sure to follow.

Next time you are looking for a party game to excite your friends, reach for Snake Oil. Visit the Raven’s Roost Pub, grab a cold drink, some snacks, and enjoy Snake Oil. It cures what ails ya!
