Activity Spotlight – The Lancaster Festival

The area around Ravenwood Castle sports a variety of summertime activities and adventures. Hiking, canoeing and horseback riding of course, but also a number of local fairs and festivals. One such festival that we heartily recommend is the Lancaster Festival! The event showcases musical performances of all kinds, art exhibits, and fair days for guests of all ages. It begins July 17th and continues until July 27th and is less than 30 miles from the Castle.

The Festival showcases a huge variety of events, some ticketed, but most free! On Friday July 19th, you’ll be able to see Amani Children’s Choir from Uganda performing at the Zane Square Concert Stage at noon. The choir has travelled all over the world and performed hundreds of times! If you feel like taking in local artistry and grabbing a bite to eat, check out the ArtWalk that same day! There will be dozens of galleries and artists, live bands, and plenty of places to grab some refreshments.

On Saturday July 20th, head to the fairgrounds for the Festival Fair Day! There will be scavenger hunts, a climbing wall, train rides, sand sculpting, homecooked foods, and so much more. Sara Evans will be closing out the night with her performance at the OUL Wendel Concert Stage. Grab your tickets, a lawn chair, and a picnic as you enjoy free parking and listen to a country music icon with your friends and family.

You can attend other fun events like Legally Blonde: The Musical, jazz nights, painting/clay sculpting for kids, Bluffett: A Jimmy Buffett Tribute band, and Rising Park Day with giant stilt walkers!

Along with all the events, the Lancaster Festival raffle will be giving guests a chance to win a 2019 Kia Soul or $15,000 cash! Tickets are $25 for one or $100 for five. The winner will be drawn at the Lancaster Festival Grand Finale on July 27th. However, that’s not the only reason the final day of the festival is so exciting! This year the festival wraps up with the 70s rock icon KANSAS, most notable for the songs “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind”, performing at 8 PM on the OUL Wendel Concert Stage.

After your adventure, return to the Castle for a butterbeer or craft brew on tap!
